Rory McIlroy won THE PLAYERS for the second time in his career, continuing his strong start to 2025. J.J. Spaun tried to ruin my prediction that nobody "random" would be victorious... but alas... he made a terrible swing on the 2nd playoff hole.
Spaun disputes this fact — claiming he hit his 8-iron perfectly into the stiff breeze. But cameras caught J.J. peeping at McIlroy's golf bag during the playoff, noticing Rory went with a 9-iron. Rory is about one club longer... so 8 makes sense. Except McIlroy hit a 3/4 lower trajetory shot — which takes off about 10 yards and has less spin. Spaun hit a high stock 8-iron which sailed out of the park and into McCovey Cove. Touch 'em all.
This week (right now!) is the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida. It's a surprisingly good fied, with 5 of the top 15 ranked players in attendance. In fact, somehow the strength of field is better than the Genesis Invitational... a Signature Event.
But the tournament has already been a bit spicey, with high winds yesterday and tempratures this morning dipping into the 40s — thanks to what is probably our last cold front of the season.
Expect the winner to be someone from the lower groups of our pool, and around the -10 number. Copperhead can be brutal in these conditions.

Good luck!
