We're like six years into the PGA TOUR's net-championship experience. They're going to trot this thing out for a full decade before finally realizing it A) is ridiculous 2) doesn't increase excitement and D) completely ignores the definition of "playoff."
When the FedEx Cup started in 2007, the $10 million bonus money was genuinely a big deal. Some golfer (Tiger) was going to get paid as much as boxers in a title fight (the highest single day payouts in sports back then). It was interesting in a "that's a lot of money" way.
This Sunday someone is going to win a $25 million bonus on top of the $1.7M for winning the tournament. That's about $17M in 2007 dollars, so the purse has well exceeded inflation!
That additional $8M cost to the TOUR is a LIV tax.

One reason to watch this week, is the complete renovation of East Lake. Andrew Green had one year to transform the tired layout. I reckon the same cast of characters will be in the mix: Xander, Rory, Cantlay... Scottie only due to his -10 starting position. But hopefully the design changes will add some discomfort and drama.
It's the last meaningful golf of the year. And a bunch of you are about to win some money. So check it out, and good luck!
The ole A2D. I love a good Buzz reference.
