All that Glitters is Gold?

It's good, enjoyable, watchable golf season thanks to the "Signature" events... which have become the de facto TOUR schedule. After a couple of duds, we had a decent tournament last weekend at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard.

Russell Henley (46% selected) came back on Collin Morikawa (9%) to win at Bay Hill. Henley now leads the pool in points!

We also had our first opposite field event of the year... where only Davis Riley (22%) made the final leader board.

This week is THE PLAYERS at TPC Sawgrass — the flagship event of the PGA TOUR. It's one of the best tournaments of the year, mainly because it's so unpredictable. Never mind that Scottie is the first ever back-to-back champion. It's incredibly difficult to consistently perform well.

Usually you can pinpoint a small group of players who will be in contention at other Majors or Signatures. But at Sawgrass, blow-ups lurk on every hole. Regardless, I'd be shocked if someone random came out of nowhere to win. Sorry, Jordan Spieth.

Scores have been steadily dropping each year... which is the case all over TOUR as technology and swing optimization outpaces any course set-up defenses. They got a lot of rain this week as well, so conditions will be soft leading to more birdies.

And while the field does lack the top LIV talent — further evidence that this isn't a real Major — we'll still be counting it as such in our scoring with 2.0x points.

Speaking of LIV... it doesn't sound like those guys will be on TOUR this year. Reunification talks seemed to have fizzled. The big tour apparently doesn't need the Saudi cash, after recent investments by private equity in the States.

And what did they do with the money? They moved a 500,000 lb. tree to the 6th tee box.

What recession?

Meanwhile, "Gold Man" still hasn't been seen since 2022.
